DQF (Driver Qualification File)
A Driver Qualification File is the set of documents FMCSA requires a motor carrier to keep for every CDL driver it employs. It holds the driver's application, MVR, road test, medical examiner's certificate, PSP report, previous-employer safety history, and drug and alcohol records, and must be produced during a DOT audit.
A Driver Qualification File (DQF) is the collection of documents FMCSA regulation 49 CFR §391 requires every motor carrier to maintain for each CDL driver. A complete DQF includes the driver's application, MVR pulled at hire and annually, road test or CDL equivalent, medical examiner's certificate, PSP report, previous-employer safety-performance history, drug and alcohol testing records, and the annual review of driving record. During a DOT compliance audit, the ability to produce a compliant DQF for every seated driver is one of the auditor's first checks.
