HOS (Hours of Service)
Hours of Service are the FMCSA rules limiting how long a CDL driver may drive and stay on duty, in order to reduce fatigue-related crashes. Property-carrying drivers may generally drive eleven hours after ten consecutive hours off duty, inside a fourteen-hour window, and are capped weekly at sixty or seventy hours.
Hours of Service (HOS) rules limit CDL driver duty and driving time to reduce fatigue-related crashes. Property-carrying drivers are generally limited to 11 hours of driving after 10 consecutive hours off-duty, within a 14-hour on-duty window, and 60/70 hours across 7/8 days. HOS violations are a top-cited item in FMCSA roadside inspections and CSA scoring.
