Recruiting & Hiring
Prescreening
Prescreening is the process of qualifying a driver applicant against basic hiring criteria — CDL class, endorsements, experience, disqualifying violations — before a recruiter spends time on a full interview. It typically happens right after a lead comes in, either through a form, an automated call or text flow, or a recruiter's first conversation.
Prescreening filters incoming driver leads against a carrier's minimum requirements, such as CDL class and endorsements held, years of verifiable experience, accident or violation history, and whether the applicant meets the specific role's needs (OTR availability, hazmat endorsement for tanker freight, and so on). Done well, prescreening happens fast and close to the moment of application, since drivers who don't hear back quickly tend to move on to another carrier. Many recruiting platforms, including Fleegital, use AI pre-qualification to ask these basic questions automatically through SMS or chat the moment a lead comes in, so a recruiter's first live conversation with a candidate is already with someone who clears the basic bar.
Why it matters for recruiting and operations
Prescreening protects recruiter time by filtering out applicants who can't meet basic requirements before a human conversation is scheduled, which matters most when speed to lead is critical and recruiter capacity is limited. It also improves the candidate experience for qualified applicants, since they move to a real conversation faster instead of waiting behind unqualified leads in the same queue.
